Lam Research and Infineon Technologies are two of the "global players" when it comes to the production of semiconductors in Villach. In order to meet the ever-increasing demands in terms of growth and space requirements, both companies are expanding.

LAM RESEARCH FOCUSES ON FLEXIBILITY

As early as October 2021, LAM announced that it would expand its production capacity in Villach to meet the growing demand for semiconductor equipment. In May 2023, the groundbreaking ceremony was held for the construction of a new, multifunctional building with a focus on production, warehousing and logistics. Investments are in the double-digit millions.

The expansion of the Villach plant is also an important step for Carinthia's economy as it creates around 100 new jobs.

Infineon Technologies Austria AG, a subsidiary of Infineon Technologies AG, is setting an important example in terms of sustainability at its headquarters in Villach. With the construction of a new logistics centre, logistical areas for goods receiving, shipping and storage, warehouse space as well as office space will be bundled. The 5,500 m2 building will be certified as a green building. This means that the focus is on minimizing the consumption of energy and resources as well as reducing environmental pollution and improving the overall economy of a building. This is achieved, among other things, by installing a photovoltaic system or green roofs.

Construction began in March and is scheduled for completion in October 2023. Commissioning is planned for January 2024.
