The Marcher Fleischwerke are embarking on one of the biggest expansion steps in their more than 90-year company history: By acquiring 51 percent of EG Südbayern Schlachtbetriebs GmbH, the Villach-based family business led by Norbert, Gernot and Herfried Marcher will take over operational and industrial control of the slaughterhouse sites in Landshut and Vilshofen, Bavaria.

With this move, the Marcher Group, Austria’s largest meat producer, is taking a major step in the German market and will produce directly in Germany for the first time.

VILLACH TAKES THE LEAD IN BAVARIA

Germany is already the most important export market for the third-generation family-run company. By entering local processing operations, Marcher is further strengthening its market position and continuing to expand its international footprint.

Following the acquisition, the company will grow to a total of 13 locations and expand its workforce by around 300 employees. The company headquarters will remain in Villach – from where the expansion into Bavaria will also be managed.

A STRONG SIGNAL FOR VILLACH AS A BUSINESS LOCATION

The expansion once again highlights how successfully companies from Villach operate on an international level. While many businesses across Europe are facing increasing pressure, the Marcher Group continues to invest in growth, new markets and long-term partnerships.

The move into Bavaria underlines not only the economic strength of the family-owned company, but also the growing international visibility of Villach as a business location.
