A key project to enhance local healthcare services in the city of Villach is currently taking shape in close proximity to the LKH Villach hospital: a new primary care unit (PCU) is being built on Schubertstraße, on the site of the former Petschnig car dealership. This marks an important step toward sustainably strengthening and modernizing outpatient healthcare services in the city.

Following the completion of all contractual agreements, concrete preparations for the start of construction are now underway. Completion is scheduled for the second half of 2027.

MEDICAL CARE UNDER ONE ROOF

The new health center will cover around 720 square meters and be fully accessible across two floors. The center will offer a comprehensive range of services at a single, central location: plans include three general practitioner offices, a diagnostic room, a treatment room for minor procedures, and several rooms for infusions, pain therapy, and wound care. The offering will be complemented by nine additional consultation and therapy rooms.

The goal is to create a modern, centralized point of contact for outpatient care that bundles a wide range of medical and therapeutic services for patients covered by public health insurance.

EXTENDED OPENING HOURS FOR GREATER FLEXIBILITY

A key advantage for patients will be the extended opening hours. The center will be open Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 12 noon, making healthcare more accessible – especially for working people.

INTERDISCIPLINARY TEAM FOR COMPREHENSIVE CARE

A total of 14 full-time positions will be created at the new facility, covering approximately 65 operating hours per week. The core team will consist of three general practitioners, three registered nurses, and four medical assistants.

This team will be complemented by specialists in physiotherapy, occupational therapy, dietetics, social work, and clinical psychology and psychotherapy. The result is a broadly based care offering that addresses a wide range of health needs.

STRONG PARTNERSHIPS IN HEALTHCARE

The building is being developed by Humanomed, while the primary care unit will later be operated by KABEG. Its immediate proximity to LKH Villach will also create important synergies in medical care.

The total investment amounts to around €7.2 million. In addition, the Carinthian Health Fund is providing initial funding of €180,000, with further subsidies currently under review. Ongoing operations will be jointly financed by social insurance providers, the Province of Carinthia, and the Carinthian Health Fund (KGF).

SUSTAINABLE, MODERN, AND WELL CONNECTED

The project also sets high sustainability standards: the building will be constructed in accordance with the klimaaktiv Gold standard – the highest Austrian quality label for sustainable construction. A photovoltaic system and charging facilities for electric vehicles are also planned.

Accessibility will be ensured not only by the location but also by an underground garage with 48 parking spaces. In addition, the center will be well connected to public transport.

A BENEFIT FOR THE CITY AND ITS RESIDENTS

With the new primary care unit, healthcare provision in Villach is being taken to a new level. Short distances, bundled services, modern infrastructure, and extended opening hours make the center an important building block for the future of healthcare and quality of life in the region.
