A great honour for Villach: Infineon Austria has brought the prestigious Industrial Excellence Award Europe to Austria for the very first time – and directly to the high-tech location in Villach. The award recognises outstanding achievements in innovation, quality, and manufacturing, and highlights Infineon’s leading role as a driving force behind the industry of the future.

EUROPEAN RECOGNITION FOR INNOVATION AND QUALITY

Founded by the French INSEAD Business School and the German WHU-Otto-Beisheim School of Management, the Industrial Excellence Award has been presented since 1995 to companies that demonstrate excellent management and competitiveness in Europe’s industrial and service sectors. Eight years ago – in 2017 – Infineon already received the award once. Now, the Villach site – and thus Austria for the first time – has been honoured with the distinction at the awards ceremony in Paris.

TECHNOLOGY FROM VILLACH FOR THE WORLD

At the Villach location, 300-millimetre silicon thin wafers as well as innovative materials, such as gallium nitride and silicon carbide, are processed. These technologies are crucial for applications in electromobility, renewable energy, AI, and robotics.

With more than 5,900 employees – including around 2,500 in research and development – and revenues of €4.8 billion in the 2024 fiscal year, Infineon Austria is the most research-intensive company in Austria. The Villach headquarters plays a key role in the global technology landscape. The presentation of the Industrial Excellence Award to the site underscores this importance.

INDUSTRY 5.0 AND SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION

For the 2025 award, the team at the Villach site underwent an intensive evaluation process – and succeeded: this year’s competition focused on resilience and sustainability in Industry 5.0. During an on-site visit, an international panel of experts was convinced by the high level of innovation and implementation quality achieved through a holistic approach that combines ecological responsibility with technological excellence.

The high-tech factory in Villach relies on intelligent automation, knowledge-based workplaces, and digital networking via the global Infineon One Virtual Fab network with production sites in Dresden and Kulim. This enables maximum efficiency, quality, and flexibility, while also making an important contribution to decarbonisation and digitalisation across the industry. In addition, the company’s resilience strategy is based on continuous employee training, strategic supplier management, and a comprehensive cybersecurity programme.

The close integration of research, development, and manufacturing is considered a particular strength of the Villach site. This combination accelerates innovation and positions Infineon as a global benchmark for modern production and management processes.

A TRIBUTE TO THE ENTIRE TEAM

The award is not only a symbol of economic success, but also the commitment and expertise of the employees. They make Villach a place where innovation, sustainability, and future technologies come together – demonstrating that technological excellence is firmly rooted in Carinthia.
