30 YEARS OF CUAS IN VILLACH – A DRIVER OF EDUCATION AND INNOVATION
For three decades, Carinthia University of Applied Sciences (FH Kärnten) has shaped the educational landscape in Villach and has become an important driver of research, innovation, and regional development. The first two degree programs were approved in 1995, and the official academic operations began the following year. Since then, the university has become an indispensable part of the city. More than 11,600 students have studied at FH Kärnten, with around 7,700 completing their degrees in Villach. Currently, about 1,170 students are enrolled in Villach in fields such as Civil Engineering and Architecture, Engineering and IT, Health and Social Work, and Business and Management.
MARTIN WAIGUNY TAKES THE HELM
To mark its 30th anniversary, FH Kärnten is seeing a leadership change: Martin Waiguny will take over as Managing Director on October 1st, succeeding Siegfried Spanz, who shaped the university for nearly two decades. Previously at the University of Applied Sciences Krems, Waiguny brings expertise in marketing and controlling and sees great potential for the Villach campus. In particular, the modern laboratories offer ideal conditions for providing students with practical, hands-on knowledge.
INTERNATIONALIZATION AND A DIGITAL FUTURE
Going forward, a special focus will be placed on internationalization, digitalization, and artificial intelligence. By expanding existing programs and introducing new ones, Villach aims to attract even more students – including from abroad.
With its tradition, innovative spirit, and a new director at the helm, FH Kärnten is entering the future stronger than ever. Villach benefits not only as a city of education but also as a dynamic hub for business and research.
