10 DAYS TRIPS FROM VILLACH - FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

There are all kinds of family recreational opportunities in the Villach - Faaker See - Ossiacher See region that guarantee fun, adventure, and beautiful natural environments. After the long winter and the various lockdown restrictions, many people are longing for a change of scenery.

We have gathered some of the best experiences for you right here in one place.

1. EAGLE ARENA AT CASTLE LANDSKRON

At the Eagle Arena at Castle Landskron visitors can watch a breathtaking eagle show and visit a birds of prey zoo. During the approximately 40 minute demonstration you can observe the free-flying birds and learn a lot about the behavior and life of these noble animals. Show times in May: Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m, with an additional show at 5 p.m. on Sundays and holidays.

2. MONKEY MOUNTAIN

The Abenteuer Affenberg, or Monkey Mountain, is also located at the Landskron Castle, is Austria’s largest outdoor enclosure for monkeys, and is home to approximately 160 Japanese macaques. Guided tours only, currently offered hourly from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

3. KÄRNTENTHERME THERMAL SPA

Covering an area of over two and a half acres, families, athletes, and wellness lovers will find a diverse range of offerings at the KärntenTherme, the most modern thermal spa in southern Austria. Opening times beginning May 19th: 10 a.m to 9 p.m. Entrance passes can be booked ahead online to avoid lines.

4. VILLACH’S CITY MUSEUM 

There is a special exhibition being shown this year in the Museum of the City of Villach -  “Warmbad- Landschaft, Menschen und Geschichte(n)” (“Warmbad - Landscape, People, and History”). The exhibition is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

5. VILLACH’S AUTOMOTIVE MUSEUM

In the Villacher Fahrzeugmuseum you can marvel at 260 cars, mopeds, and motorcycles from the years 1927 to 1990. Opening times: daily from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 2 - 4 p.m.

6. CLIMBING PARKS

At Lake Ossiacher See you can fly high. The high ropes course Kletterwald Ossiacher See is a climbing and outdoor excursion area for all ages, and has new attractions this year. The ropes course is open daily from 9:45 a.m. to 6 p.m. On the same grounds is the Familywald Ossiacher See, an adventure park especially fun for young children. Here you will experience adventurous paths, tree houses, suspension bridges, and a brand new tree net - a trampoline in the treetops. The Familywald is open daily from 9:45 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Another high ropes course is located at the Tabor Peak on Lake Faaker See. In nine different parcours you can climb up to 20 meters, and in the 3D archery range you can prove your skill with a bow and arrow. Open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

7. SOCCER ZONE

The SOCCERZone is also on Lake Faaker See and is Carinthia’s first soccer golf course. The goal is to get the ball through the obstacles and into the hole at the end of each track with the least number of kicks. With 10 different tracks, there’s lots of fun to be had! Open Fridays from 1 - 8 p.m., and on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

8. KLIPPKLAPP PONY FARM

Dreams come true in Ledenitzen am Faaker See. KlippKlapp Pony Farm offers riding lessons and also single rides in the countryside surrounding the lake, and is a great way for parents and children to explore the area. Opening times until the end of June: Tuesday to Friday from 12 - 6 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

9. ORGANIC CITRUS GARDEN

When life gives you lemons - take a trip to the Citrus Garden on Faaker See! There is nearly an acre of amazing citrus plants from all over the world to explore - 280 varieties in all. Open from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on holidays from 1 - 5 p.m.

10. WURZELPARK

Wurzelpark is located in the center of Carinthia in Arriach. Over various adventure paths and climbs you reach playgrounds and attractions such as a flying flox. Open from 1 - 6 p.m. daily except Tuesday.

Current COVID-19 rules and regulations apply at all destinations. Status as of May 2021: The “3-G-Rule” applies for all indoor and outdoor recreational attractions (“getestet, genesen, geimpft” - you must be tested, have proof that you’ve recovered, or be vaccinated); FFP2 masks must be worn by adults and children over the age of 14; mouth and nose protection must be worn by children 6 years and older; you must keep a 2 meter distance to others; and registration is required at certain locations.
