THE SURVEY: THE KUNUNU SATISFACTION ATLAS
kununu, the leading employer review platform in the German-speaking world, examined employee satisfaction in Austria from the end of June 2024 to the end of June 2025 and published the results in the Kununu Satisfaction Atlas. More than 73,000 anonymous reviews, submitted by current or former employees on the platform, were analyzed for the report.
Job satisfaction depends on far more than salary: interpersonal factors such as appreciation, recognition, teamwork, transparent communication, and a healthy work-life balance play a decisive role. That’s why the study considered dimensions such as working atmosphere, leadership behavior, work-life balance, equality, salary, and social benefits.
THE RESULTS: VILLACH LEADS THE CITY RANKING
In the federal state comparison, Salzburg, Vorarlberg, and Upper Austria lead the list of most satisfied employees. Vienna ranks in the middle with 55.1 percent, followed directly by Carinthia in seventh place with 54.7 percent.
The city ranking, comparing Austria’s ten most populous cities, is particularly striking: Villach claims first place with 61 percent—well ahead of Klagenfurt (52.3%) and even ahead of Linz and Salzburg, which rank second and third. Graz (57.5%), Innsbruck (56.2%), and St. Pölten (53.9%) also trail behind Villach.
